About Poverty and Development Unit
The Poverty and Development Unit is made up of NGOs that implement and advocate in the various fields of poverty reduction and development. This unit advocates on the issues of ODA, global health, basic education and child labor, trade and investment, innovative financing mechanisms, gender, climate change, and poverty.
As of April 2008, more than 60 NGOs, both advocacy and implementing organizations, participated in the Poverty and Development Unit.

Working Groups
Poverty and Development Unit consists of five working groups ('Innovative Financing Mechanisms', 'Global Health', 'Basic Education and Child Labor' and 'Trade and Investment'), which is based on 'Official Development Assistance (ODA)'.
'Official Development Assistance (ODA)'
・ Clarifying the priorities of the ODA purpose.
・ Comprehensive policy proposal for securing quality and quantity of aid.
・ Promoting G8 leaders to honor past promises.
・ Promoting particularly, the government of Japan to utilize the opportunity for accelerating the implementation of the aid policy, which reflects the voices of 'aid-receiving' people and its civil society,
'Global Health'
・ Policy proposals on global health agendas which include infectious diseases and public health systems.
・ Research and policy proposals to improve the bi-lateral aid relationship between Japan and developing countries.
'Basic Education and Child Labor'
・ Policy proposals for G8 leaders to take some measures on basic education, child labour, and education in conflict areas.
・ Announcing the proposals to the government, public and media for better understanding and awareness.
'Trade and Investment'
・ Advocating the necessity of trading/investment rules which will support development.
・ Prevention of monopolies and oligopolyies in the international market.
'Innovative Financing Mechanisms'
・ Proposing the discussion of the Innovative Financing Mechanism as a part of the 'Financing for Development'.
・ Recommending the proposals for 2008 G8 Summit based on the results of the 2007 G8 Summit.
