The 2008 Japan G8 Summit NGO Forum will host the Civil G8 Dialogue in Kyoto on April 23 and 24, 2008.
The objective of this Civil G8 Dialogue is to continue and intensify the dialogue between international civil society and the G8 that has already been initiated by the previous G8 Presidencies and their respective national civil societies.
The Civil G8 Dialogue will focus on the three main issues of the agenda of the Japanese G8 Presidency: namely, Climate Change, Africa/Development with emphasis on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, and World Economy. In addition Peace and Human Rights will be focused. Along this line civil society representatives will have an opportunity to analyse and discuss issues of their general and special interests in various plenary and working groups, culminating in a round-table discussion with the G8 Sherpas.
The Civil G8 Dialogue will open on April 23rd with a series of panel discussions and workshops on the G8 process and the main official agenda items of the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit. The conference will conclude with a round table discussion between civil society representative and the G8 Sherpas in the afternoon of April 24th, chaired by Mr Maharu Kohno, the Japanese G8 Sherpa and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ms Masako Hoshino, Chair of the 2008 Japan G8 Summit NGO Forum.
The NGO Forum will accept the application for media accreditation from 24th March to 10th April. Afraid to say, due to the limited capacity of the venue, any media is requested to have media pass to join this conference.
